The Purpose of Life is to overcome a problem then help others do the same
You too can lead a much better lifestyle, just by learning a few simple concepts, then using them to direct your financial advisors on what you want them to do for you!
My Problems with Money...
You can probably tell from the photo above that this isn’t really me in the image on the left. But I have been in this situation.
As a 24 year old junior engineer, I was making $1500 a month, when I met a good independent financial advisor who convinced me that I should be saving 10% for long term goals. Well, for two years I saved $100 a month, and following good advice, I had just over $3100 in my investment account. Then I moved to a much larger city a few hours away and changed advisors – to someone as young and aggressive as I was! Four months later, I closed the account, as it was almost gone!
Learning can be very expensive!
But not learning, and repeating the same errors is WAY more expensive! I know.
Two more times I would make a financial decision that, in hindsight, had I decided differently, my life would have been significantly different much sooner!
But, I finally did learn! Then I applied my engineering discipline to what I learned and found that it works extremely well!
In 2012 I found an organization dedicated to helping average Canadians achieve financial independence through education and access to the same products that had previously been provided only to the wealthy. I jumped in right away and became licensed to sell life insurance and mutual funds in the province of British Columbia. I still am associated with that company, but I will not be naming them as they do not wish to be associated with my “3-Plan Lifestyle” initiative – you may have already noticed that I offer some controversial views on how the industry is regulated to NOT help average people as much as they should be helping!
So my mission now is to:
- provide the education that people need to better manage their financial futures,
- create a conversation about how the Canadian (and American) financial systems can be modified to provide better financial outcomes for everyone, not just the small minority who achieve any level of financial freedom now, and
- push the regulators to roll back changes which, over the past few decades, have contributed significantly to the divergence of investment performance of the average investor from those with more knowledge or more money to buy the best advice.
I invite your comments and suggestions via email or social media.
Here’s to a wealthier lifestyle for ALL of us!
